Guma Pty Ltd has been delivering civil construction, earthmoving and contracting services to major mining companies throughout the Pilbara since 2012.

Due to continued growth and long-term contracts, we are seeking experienced and safety-focused Hi-Rail Operators to join our team working within active rail corridor environments across the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

This position offers long-term opportunities with an established contractor and a strong team culture.


About the Role

Working within active rail corridors, the successful applicant will safely operate Hi-Rail equipment and support rail maintenance and construction activities in the remote Pilbara environment.

Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, compliance with rail requirements and the ability to work effectively within high-risk operating environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Hi-Rail equipment within active rail corridors.

  • Carry out rail maintenance and civil support works.

  • Conduct daily pre-start inspections and basic servicing of equipment.

  • Comply with rail safety requirements, site procedures and company policies.

  • Work closely with Supervisors, Track Protection Officers and other contractors.

  • Identify and report hazards, incidents and equipment defects.

  • Participate in toolbox meetings, risk assessments and safety initiatives.

  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and workplace presentation.


Plant & Equipment Experience

Experience operating one or more of the following is highly regarded:

  • Hi-Rail Excavators.

  • Hi-Rail Tipper Trucks

  • Hi-Rail Moxy / Articulated Dump Trucks.

  • Excavators.

  • Loaders.

  • Rollers.

  • Skid Steers.

  • Tipper Trucks.


Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience operating Hi-Rail equipment within rail environments.

  • Experience working within active rail corridors.

  • Current MC Driver's Licence (minimum requirement).

  • Construction White Card

  • Relevant plant competencies and VOCs.

  • Ability to pass pre-employment medical and drug & alcohol screening.

  • Ability to pass a Category 3 Rail Medical.

  • Ability to complete and satisfy STOP-BANG sleep apnoea screening requirements where applicable.

  • Strong understanding of safe work practices and hazard management.

  • Ability to work rostered shifts including weekends and night shift when required.

  • Australian working rights.

Highly Regarded

  • Safeworking qualifications or previous experience working under rail protection arrangements.

  • Rail industry experience within heavy haul operations.

  • Current RIW card.


Working Conditions

  • FIFO from Perth on a 2:1 roster.

  • Point of hire is Perth, Western Australia.

  • Travel to site is undertaken outside rostered work hours.

  • Camp accommodation and meals are provided, with facilities varying between project locations.

  • Work is conducted in remote areas of the Pilbara. Where toilet and welfare facilities will be limited whilst working on site.

  • Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors in physically demanding conditions.
